Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rome on an official visit to Italy, marking the final leg of his five-nation diplomatic tour and opening a new chapter in the India-Italy Strategic Partnership.
The Ministry of External Affairs described the visit as an important step towards expanding cooperation between the two nations across key sectors, including trade, investment, connectivity, clean energy and innovation.
Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, warmly welcomed PM Modi at the airport.
Shortly after arriving in Rome, the Prime Minister said he would meet Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to discuss ways to deepen bilateral cooperation and strengthen strategic ties.
The Prime Minister said the visit would focus strongly on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), which aims to improve connectivity and trade links between Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
Discussions will also include a review of the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029, which serves as a roadmap for collaboration in several priority sectors.
PM Modi also announced a visit to the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in Rome, reaffirming India’s commitment to multilateralism and global food security.
The visit comes amid growing India-Italy ties. Bilateral trade reached 16.77 billion US dollars in 2025, while Italian investment in India stood at 3.66 billion US dollars between 2000 and 2025.
Both nations continue expanding cooperation in defence, clean energy, technology and innovation.
