Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Norway on Monday to participate in the 3rd India-Nordic Summit and hold bilateral engagements with Norwegian leaders.
The visit marks PM Modi’s first trip to Norway and the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 43 years.
During the visit, the Prime Minister is likely to meet King Harald V and Queen Sonja and hold bilateral talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store.
The Prime Minister will also jointly address the India-Norway Business and Research Summit along with his Norwegian counterpart.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the visit will provide an opportunity to review progress in India-Norway relations and explore new avenues for cooperation in trade, investment, clean and green technologies, and the blue economy.
“The visit will also be an opportunity to induce momentum in bilateral trade worth around USD 2.73 billion (2024), and investments by Norway’s Government Pension Fund (GPFG) of close to USD 28 billion in the Indian capital market,” the MEA stated.
The Ministry added that the visit will likely strengthen economic ties under the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement.
The 3rd India-Nordic Summit will take place in Oslo on May 19, 2026. Alongside PM Modi and Jonas Gahr Støre, the summit will be attended by Mette Frederiksen, Petteri Orpo, Kristrun Frostadottir, and Ulf Kristersson.
The summit will build upon previous editions held in Stockholm in 2018 and Copenhagen in 2022, with discussions expected on technology and innovation, renewable energy, sustainability, defence, space, the Arctic, and resilient supply chains.
“The visit will also provide an impetus to India’s bilateral trade (USD 19 billion in 2024) and investment ties with Nordic countries,” the MEA stated.
