On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on the ruling All India Trinamool Congress during an election rally in West Bengal.
The Minister asserted that strict action would follow against those accused of corruption. He said this would happen if the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in the state.
Addressing a gathering in Khayrasole in Birbhum district, Shah alleged that people involved in financial irregularities and violence over the past several years would face consequences after the Assembly elections. He said those responsible for wrongdoing would be identified and dealt with under the law.
The Union Minister also criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, rejecting the possibility of her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, succeeding her as the next Chief Minister. He maintained that the next government in the state would be led by the BJP.
Raising the issue of illegal immigration, Shah accused the state government of allowing unauthorised entrants to stay in the state. He said that if voted to power, his party would prioritise identifying and deporting such individuals.
The Minister will likely continue his campaign later in the day with another public meeting in Raniganj, followed by a roadshow and organisational engagements in Durgapur.
The rally comes as political campaigning intensifies in West Bengal ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, with parties stepping up their outreach across districts.
