Air India on Tuesday confirmed that its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Campbell Wilson, will step down, with the airline initiating the process to identify his successor.
The company stated that a committee has been formed to oversee the selection in the coming months.
According to the airline, Wilson had informed Chairman N. Chandrasekaran in 2024 of his intention to resign in 2026.
Since then, he has focused on ensuring organisational stability and preparing the leadership team for a smooth transition, and he will remain in his role until the organisation appoints a successor.
Reflecting on his tenure, Wilson highlighted significant developments since the airline’s privatisation, including the merger of four airlines and a shift towards private sector practices.
He also noted improvements in leadership, workforce culture, and operational systems.
He added that Air India has modernised its systems, introduced new products, enhanced service standards, and expanded its fleet with over 100 additional aircraft.
The refurbishment of legacy narrowbody aircraft is nearly complete, while deliveries of upgraded widebody aircraft are now underway.
Chairman N. Chandrasekaran expressed gratitude for Wilson’s contributions, acknowledging his leadership during a transformative period.
He also highlighted the challenges faced by the airline, including post-pandemic supply chain disruptions and global headwinds.
Chandrasekaran stated that Wilson and his team demonstrated resilience and commitment, successfully aligning a diverse organisation towards the shared vision of building a stronger and modernised Air India.
