Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the Lok Sabha, calling the ongoing West Asia conflict ‘worrisome’ and underlining the challenges it poses to India’s economy, energy security, and the safety of Indians living and working in the region.
He noted that nearly one crore Indians reside in West Asia, making their protection a top priority for the government.
PM Modi assured that Indian missions are providing 24/7 support, including dedicated helplines and on-ground assistance.
He added that around 1,000 Indians have safely returned from Iran, while families of missing or deceased citizens continue to receive government support.
Highlighting energy concerns, the Prime Minister emphasised that India is maintaining an uninterrupted petrol, diesel, and LPG supply across the country.
India has prioritised domestic energy production and diversified its imports to 41 countries over the past 11 years, strengthening supply resilience.
PM Modi confirmed that several Indian ships previously stuck near the Strait of Hormuz have safely returned, reflecting proactive measures to secure shipping and supply routes.
He noted that oil companies maintain separate reserves alongside national strategic reserves to handle disruptions.
CBSE exams for Classes 10 and 12 in West Asia have been cancelled, with authorities safeguarding students’ progress.
PM Modi emphasised that the government continuously monitors global developments to ensure uninterrupted energy and essential supplies.
Indian missions provide round-the-clock support to citizens abroad, coordinating safe returns, while national security and their safety remain the highest priority.
PM Modi urged Parliament to send a unified message to the world, reflecting India’s firm stance, resolve, and commitment to protecting its citizens while managing the crisis efficiently.
