A public hearing was held for the expansion of the 1600 MW power plant project by Adani Group’s Mirzapur Thermal Energy UP Pvt Ltd in Mirzapur on March 17, 2026.

The hearing took place near Kathinai Primary School, where officials presented the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) report and outlined key project components.

The discussion focused on proposed infrastructure, including an underground water pipeline, a DB pump house and the construction of an intake well.

Villagers and public representatives actively participated, sharing their views, concerns and suggestions regarding the project and its potential impact on the local community.

Presiding over the hearing, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Sadar) Gulab Chandra emphasised the importance of aligning industrial development with public aspirations. He stated that development must benefit every section of society and highlighted that the project should contribute not only to power generation but also to the economic and social upliftment of the region.

Company representatives assured villagers and farmers that local interests would remain a priority. They said the project will generate substantial employment opportunities, both directly and indirectly, benefiting thousands of people.

Officials also pointed out that the initiative could improve essential infrastructure such as roads, education and healthcare in remote areas.

Residents from several nearby villages attended the hearing in large numbers, and authorities responded positively to their suggestions, reflecting a collaborative approach.

Experts also provided technical insights into the SIA report.

The project will likely strengthen infrastructure and support long-term economic growth while addressing social and environmental concerns.
