The Indian-flagged LPG tanker Nanda Devi will arrive at Kandla Port in Gujarat on Tuesday after departing from Qatar with a consignment of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The vessel travelled through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz before heading towards the Indian coast.
The tanker’s arrival is expected to help maintain steady fuel supplies and ease concerns about shipments travelling through sensitive maritime routes.
Another Indian LPG tanker, Shivalik, reached Mundra Port in Gujarat a day earlier, carrying about 45,000–46,000 tonnes of LPG.
Both vessels belong to the Shipping Corporation of India and play an important role in ensuring stable fuel imports for the country.
Together, Shivalik and Nanda Devi are transporting nearly 92,700 metric tonnes of LPG to India.
Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Special Secretary in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, said during an inter-ministerial briefing that the tanker safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz and entered open waters. Authorities are closely monitoring ship movements due to security concerns in the region.
He also confirmed that all Indian seafarers operating in the Persian Gulf are safe, with no reports of any incidents.
Government data shows 22 Indian-flagged vessels are currently operating west of the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf, carrying 611 seafarers.
Another vessel, Jag Laadki, carrying nearly 81,000 tonnes of crude oil from the United Arab Emirates, is heading to Mundra Port. Officials confirmed the ship and its Indian crew are safe.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most crucial shipping routes, handling nearly 20 per cent of global oil and gas exports. Authorities continue to closely track vessel movements to ensure the safety of cargo and seafarers.
