Dedicated To Social Welfare Activities: PM Modi On Govind Parmar’s Passing

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Govind Parmar, a Bharatiya Janata Party legislator from the Umreth constituency in Gujarat’s Anand district.

Taking to the social media platform, the Prime Minister paid tribute to the veteran leader, recalling his lifelong dedication to public service and social welfare.

“I am saddened by the news of the passing of Shri Govindbhai Parmar, a member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. He was always dedicated and committed to social welfare activities,” PM Modi posted on X.

The post further read, “Prayers for the peace of the departed soul and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.”

Life, Career and Legacy of Govind Parmar

Parmar passed away on Friday at the age of 82 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Anand, according to party leaders. He had been unwell for some time and was receiving medical care before his demise.

Born in 1943, Parmar came from a modest background and became a prominent grassroots leader in Gujarat’s Charotar region.

Despite studying only up to Class 7, he remained closely connected with rural communities. He actively engaged in social welfare and local development, earning respect from party workers and residents alike.

Parmar won the Umreth Assembly seat in 2017, defeating Congress candidate Kapilaben Chavda by 1,883 votes. He retained the seat in the 2022 Assembly election, defeating Jayant Patel of the Nationalist Congress Party.

Parmar secured 95,639 votes and won the contest by a margin of 26,717 votes. These victories strengthened the BJP’s hold in a previously volatile constituency.

Party workers and colleagues mourned his passing, remembering him as a dedicated public servant. His death leaves the Umreth seat in the Anand district vacant.

Parmar’s family survives him, and leaders and supporters across Gujarat have extended their condolences, closing a career devoted to community service.
