RJD national president Lalu Prasad Yadav on Wednesday attended the traditional ‘dahi-chura’ feast organised on the occasion of Makar Sankranti at his elder son Tej Pratap Yadav’s residence in Patna.
The visit signalled family unity amid political speculation over Tej Pratap’s future.
Lalu Prasad joined the dahi-chura meal, blessed his son, and wished him a bright political future. He told the media he was not upset with Tej Pratap and urged him to stay connected with the family.
On rumours of his son joining the BJP, he avoided a direct reply, saying Tej Pratap would always have his blessings.
A day earlier, Tej Pratap had personally visited Rabri Devi’s residence to invite his parents and younger brother Tejashwi Yadav for the Makar Sankranti celebrations.
Accepting the invitation, Lalu Prasad was among the first senior leaders to arrive at the venue.
Several prominent figures attended the feast, drawing wide attention. Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan joined the event and shared a warm exchange with Lalu Prasad.
Tej Pratap’s maternal uncles Prabhu Nath Yadav and Sadhu Yadav, along with JD(U) MLA Chetan Anand, also took part.
Leaders from multiple parties joined the gathering, giving it wider political significance.
Tej Pratap also invited several senior BJP leaders and had himself attended a ‘dahi-chura’ feast hosted by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha a day earlier, fuelling political speculation.
Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav did not attend the event. Reacting to this, Tej Pratap said he had received his father’s blessings and added that his younger brother might arrive later.
The two brothers had met a day earlier in a cordial atmosphere, a moment widely seen as a sign of reconciliation within the family.
