Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said the Bagheli language of Rewa held a special place in the heart of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who often spoke in it during his interactions.
Speaking at a farmers’ conference in Rewa district, the Home Minister made the remarks while inaugurating the Madhya Pradesh government’s Natural Farming Project.
Bagheli, a regional language of the Baghelkhand area covering Rewa, Sidhi and Satna districts, closely resembles Avadhi and Bhojpuri and reflects the cultural identity of the region.
Geographically, Rewa shares borders with Uttar Pradesh from three sides, connecting it to Prayagraj, Mirzapur-Banaras and Chitrakoot.
Before addressing the gathering, the Home Minister visited a gaushala using e-carts and reviewed an agriculture exhibition organised at the Basaman Mama area of Rewa.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, State BJP president Hemant Khandelwal and other local leaders were present at the programme.
The authorities developed the Basaman Mama gaushala as a major animal welfare facility, where it shelters more than 7,000 abandoned cows in the region.
Focus on Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare
Aligned with the state government’s roadmap, the Rewa event formed part of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s broader vision to promote agricultural growth and natural farming.
After completing two years focused on women’s empowerment and industrial development, the state government has declared 2026 as the Year of Agriculture.
Under this plan, the government will coordinate efforts to increase farmers’ incomes, promote climate-resilient natural farming, ensure fair crop prices, and adopt digital and technological solutions in agriculture.
Nationally, Madhya Pradesh ranks first in maize and soybean production and second in wheat, pulses, oilseeds and coarse grains output.
Over the past two years, the state government has procured 2.41 crore metric tonnes of food grains from 48.51 lakh farmers, with ₹81,767 crore transferred directly to their bank accounts.
The state government has disbursed compensation worth ₹1,243.54 crore to 77 lakh farmers during the same period to offset crop losses caused by natural calamities.
Additionally, under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, farmers receive ₹6,000 annually from the Centre, with the state contributing an equal amount.
Since April 2025, a total of ₹65,756 crore has been disbursed to 1.61 crore farmers in Madhya Pradesh under the combined support scheme.
