Virat Kohli etched his name deeper into cricketing history by completing 16,000 List A runs during his return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Wednesday.
Representing Delhi against Andhra Pradesh at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, Kohli achieved the landmark with his very first run while chasing a target of 299.
Kohli became only the second Indian batter after legendary Sachin Tendulkar to cross the 16,000-run mark in List A cricket.
The milestone places the 37-year-old among an elite group of just nine players worldwide to achieve the feat, alongside greats such as Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, and Sir Vivian Richards.
Kohli last featured in the Vijay Hazare Trophy during the 2010–11 season, when he captained Delhi.
Although he played in the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy in 2013–14, he had not returned to the premier domestic 50-over tournament for nearly a decade.
His comeback generated significant anticipation, and the historic milestone provided a memorable start to Delhi’s campaign.
Outstanding ODI Legacy
While the List A milestone underlines Kohli’s consistency across formats, his record in One-Day Internationals remains equally remarkable. Kohli stands as the second-highest run-scorer in ODI history, behind only Sachin Tendulkar.
He has amassed 14,557 runs in 308 ODI matches at an extraordinary average of 58.46, making him the fastest batter to reach 14,000 runs in the format.
Kohli also holds the record for the most ODI centuries, with 53 centuries to his name.
Despite his illustrious career, Kohli continues to chase Tendulkar’s all-time List A century record of 60.
He currently has 57 centuries in List A cricket, underlining his sustained excellence and hunger for records even after nearly two decades at the highest level.
Kohli made his List A debut for Delhi in 2006 during the Ranji One-Day Tournament.
Since then, he has consistently delivered standout performances in domestic and international 50-over cricket.
His latest achievement serves as a reminder of his longevity, discipline, and enduring impact on Indian cricket.
