‘The Welfare Of The World Is Only Through The Path Of Peace’: PM Modi Stresses On Ukraine Conflict

PM Modi on Friday stated that India is not neutral on Ukraine, backing all peace initiatives and stressing that global well-being lies in peaceful solutions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday emphasised that India is not a neutral observer in the conflict in Ukraine. He stressed that the country backs all initiatives aimed at restoring peace.

PM Modi reiterated that peaceful solutions are the only way to ensure global well-being.

Speaking during his discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, PM Modi stated, “We have been engaged in constant communication after the Ukraine crisis. You made us aware of everything from time to time as a true friend. I believe that trust is a great power. The welfare of the world is only through the path of peace. Together, we must look for the pathways to peace. With the efforts that have been ongoing for the past few days, I am confident that once again, the world will return to peace.”

“In recent days, whenever I have spoken with leaders of the global community and discussed this issue in detail, I have always said that India is not neutral. India has a clear position, and that position is for peace. We support every effort toward peace and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with every effort for peace,” he further asserted.

The Prime Minister expressed optimism that the world will soon overcome the difficulties it currently faces, including the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic and other geopolitical strains. He voiced hope that the international community will progress in unity and stability.

“The world has faced numerous crises, from Covid-19 to the present. We hope that very soon, the world will be free from these tensions and that the global community will move forward on a path of progress in the right direction. I am confident that today, we will discuss many issues. The economic ties between India and Russia must further strengthened, and together, we can reach new heights. With such a highly optimistic approach, we will advance our meeting. This is my strong belief,” the Prime Minister asserted.

Describing President Putin’s visit as significant, PM Modi noted, “It has been 25 years since you took office in 2001 and first visited India. In that first visit itself, a strong foundation for a strategic partnership was laid. I am overjoyed personally too that my relations with you on a personal level have also completed 25 years.”

Earlier in the day, PM Modi welcomed President Putin at Hyderabad House. The talks focused on strengthening defence, trade and broader bilateral cooperation.

Prior to the meeting, he visited Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi before the meeting. Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh accompanied him.

The Russian President also received a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan, including a guard of honour.

President Putin’s schedule in India remains busy, with plans to attend a business engagement. President Droupadi Murmu will host him at a state banquet before he returns to Moscow later in the evening.
