On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin met at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. The leaders are holding discussions on boosting bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in defence, trade and the wider economy.

Ahead of the meeting, President Putin visited Rajghat and laid a wreath in tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. He was accompanied by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh during the solemn ceremony.
Earlier, President Putin was welcomed with full ceremonial honours at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he inspected the guard of honour and was received by PM Modi and President Droupadi Murmu.
The Russian leader has a busy schedule throughout the day, including a business engagement and a State banquet hosted by President Murmu in the evening.
The President will likely attend a commercial event at Bharat Mandapam to encourage greater investment and trade ties between the two countries.
Later, he will join the President for a formal dinner at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The Russian President arrived in India on Thursday evening and received a personalised welcome from PM Modi at the airport. PM Modi then accompanied him from the tarmac, reflecting the close diplomatic ties between the two leaders.
During their initial interaction, PM Modi gifted President Putin a Russian edition of the Bhagavad Gita, describing the text as a source of global inspiration. He also posted photographs of the exchange on X.
This visit follows PM Modi’s trip to Moscow in July 2024, marking a continuation of regular high-level engagement between the two nations.
Both sides see the relationship as a crucial pillar of their strategic outlook.
Russia has remained one of India’s most dependable partners over several decades.
