Linking Legacy with Contemporary Progress
Connecting the historical legacy of the Ahom dynasty with contemporary development, PM Modi highlighted the transformative work undertaken by the NDA government at the Centre and by the Assam government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
He said that both governments have been ‘working tirelessly to boost the progress of Assam’, with notable advancements in infrastructure, connectivity and social welfare.
He pointed to improvements in roads, bridges and digital infrastructure, along with enhanced delivery of health, education and welfare schemes that have strengthened the state’s development trajectory.
A significant portion of the Prime Minister’s message further focused on the government’s efforts to promote the heritage of the Tai-Ahom community.
PM Modi noted that several initiatives are underway to preserve the community’s culture and language, including documentation projects, cultural centres, research support and the integration of Tai-Ahom history into academic curricula.
He said these steps would ‘greatly benefit the youth of Assam’, helping them connect with their ancestral heritage while creating new opportunities in cultural studies and tourism.
Celebrating Sukapha’s Legacy Across Assam
Asom Divas is commemorated throughout the state with cultural programmes, academic seminars and community gatherings that celebrate Sukapha’s enduring principles of harmony and coexistence among diverse communities.
Over time, the day has evolved into an occasion for both reflection and forward-looking aspiration, reaffirming Assam’s historical identity while embracing its developmental goals.
PM Modi’s message underscored the continuity between Assam’s rich heritage and its present-day development.
By linking Sukapha’s civilisational contribution with the state’s current governance and growth, the Prime Minister reinforced the importance of cultural pride as a foundation for progress—an approach that has increasingly shaped the Centre’s engagement with the Northeast.
