India celebrated a landmark achievement as Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed Ahmedabad’s selection as the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, calling it a proud moment for every Indian.
He said India’s strong sports infrastructure and long-term investment in athlete development played a decisive role in securing the bid.
The announcement came at the end of the Commonwealth Sports General Assembly in Glasgow, where Ahmedabad’s proposal impressed the global delegates.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel called the win an unparalleled moment of pride. He said the Games will accelerate Gujarat’s rise as India’s leading sporting hub and strengthen the national vision of Viksit Bharat.
Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the 2030 Games will showcase India’s development journey. He added that the event will reinforce the nation’s commitment to using sports as a catalyst for growth.
Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted that the event will strengthen India’s capacity to host inclusive, sustainable global competitions.
Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi called the decision a historic honour. He assured the world that Gujarat is fully prepared with world-class facilities, efficient systems, and India’s renowned hospitality.
He stressed that the event reflects the state’s values of unity, sustainability and excellence.
Nation Celebrates Major Milestone
Leaders credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s consistent focus on building a sports-driven culture and strengthening India’s global sports presence.
Amit Shah, Bhupendra Patel, and Harsh Sanghavi coordinated closely to present a compelling bid.
Their leadership helped India secure the right to host the centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games.
Sports leaders across the world praised the decision. PT Usha said hosting the centenary Games will deepen ties among Commonwealth nations and shape the next century of global sports cooperation.
Commonwealth Sport interim president Donald Rukare called Ahmedabad’s selection a defining moment, noting India’s scale, energy and readiness for a modern, future-focused Games.
The event will be anchored at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave, supported by major sporting and training facilities across Gujarat.
The Games will deliver strong sustainability measures through renewable-powered venues, low-emission transport and zero-waste systems. They will place para-sports at the centre of the event.
The successful bid followed structured evaluations, technical presentations and on-ground assessments in Ahmedabad.
Strong governance reforms under India’s National Sports Policy 2025 and the National Sports Governance Act strengthened the country’s credibility.
Hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games marks a major milestone in India’s journey toward Viksit Bharat 2047. It showcases the nation’s progress, ambition, and growing global leadership in sports.
