The Adani Group, in partnership with the Ministry of Education’s Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), has announced a major national initiative to revitalise Indology, the academic study of India’s civilisation, cultural heritage, classical sciences and ancient knowledge traditions.
The organisers will hold the three-day programme at the Adani Corporate House in Ahmedabad from 20 to 22 November.
At a time when Indology departments around the world face reduced academic support, the initiative seeks to re-establish India’s intellectual leadership by presenting its knowledge systems through authentic, research-driven Indian scholarship.
The partnership aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises integrating India’s traditional wisdom into modern education.
The IKS division has been working to mainstream classical knowledge systems across engineering, environmental studies, linguistics, public policy, healthcare and other disciplines.
By joining hands with the Adani Group, known for its long-term investments in nation-building, the programme aims to strengthen the academic foundations of Indian knowledge and promote interdisciplinary research.
Investment to Support Scholars and Interdisciplinary Research
To address the decline of Indology as an academic discipline, the Adani Group and IKS have launched a five-year programme worth ₹13.16 crore, supporting 14 PhD scholars across India’s leading institutions.
Their research will span a wide range of subjects, including Paninian grammar, computational linguistics, traditional astronomical systems, heritage conservation, indigenous health practices, sustainability in ancient engineering, political philosophy and classical literature.
A rigorous national selection process involving experts from IITs, IIMs, IKS-focused universities and distinguished Indology professionals selected the scholars.
The programme encourages the integration of classical Indian knowledge with contemporary research methods such as data science, systems thinking and multimodal archiving. The intention is to make Indology relevant to global academic conversations and strengthen its place in modern scholarship.
Drawing inspiration from the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the idea that ‘the world is one family’, the initiative seeks to uphold this ancient ethos. It also reflects the Adani Group’s broader commitment to promoting India’s soft power and civilisational influence.
Organisers believe that the programme will help India reclaim leadership in the study, preservation and global dissemination of its ancient knowledge systems.
