The Adani Group, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education’s Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) division, will host a national programme to renew interest in Indology and strengthen India’s academic engagement with its civilisational heritage.
The three-day event will take place at the Adani Corporate House in Ahmedabad from 20 to 22 November.
The initiative comes at a time when global Indology departments have faced diminishing institutional support, prompting calls for renewed academic ownership within India.
As part of the collaboration, the Adani Group and IKS have rolled out a five-year scheme worth ₹13.16 crore to support 14 PhD scholars across top academic institutions.
The funding aims to nurture research in a wide range of fields, including Paninian grammar, computational linguistics, ancient astronomy, traditional engineering methods, sustainability practices, classical literature, indigenous health systems, political thought and heritage studies.
The scholars were selected through a national consultation involving IITs, IIMs, IKS-focused universities and senior academicians.
Organisers said the programme aims to blend classical knowledge with modern research tools such as data science, systems thinking and multimodal archiving.
Strengthening Indigenous Perspectives in Academia
The programme seeks to reinforce India’s ownership of its civilisational studies by encouraging research rooted in indigenous epistemologies.
Organisers said the initiative reflects a wider effort to re-centre Indian perspectives in academic discourse, particularly in disciplines where Western frameworks have dominated for decades.
The IKS division, established under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, has been working to integrate traditional Indian knowledge into mainstream education and interdisciplinary research, spanning fields such as engineering, environmental sciences, linguistics, public policy and healthcare.
The Adani Group stated that the Indology revival aligns with its long-term nation-building goals and echoes India’s civilisational philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the world as one family.
The initiative, the group added, contributes to India’s expanding soft-power influence by supporting research that preserves and promotes traditional knowledge systems.
The upcoming event will bring together leading scholars, researchers and policymakers, and it will further strengthen the country’s commitment to preserving its intellectual heritage.
