Bihar witnessed a major political shift on Wednesday as Nitish Kumar resigned from his post as Chief Minister and immediately sought the Governor’s approval to form the next government under the NDA banner.
Accompanied by senior NDA leaders, including Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, he visited Raj Bhavan to hand over the list of 202 newly elected MLAs supporting the alliance.
Governor Arif Mohammad Khan accepted his resignation and formally invited him to establish the new government without delay.
Before meeting the Governor, NDA legislators unanimously elected Kumar as their leader during a session held in the Central Hall of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. The JD(U) had already endorsed him as its legislative party leader earlier in the day, reinforcing his position at the helm of the coalition.
The BJP also finalised its leadership roles, naming Samrat Chaudhary as its legislative party leader and Vijay Kumar Sinha as deputy leader. Both leaders are set to serve as Deputy Chief Ministers in the new administration.
Grand Swearing-In Event Scheduled At Gandhi Maidan
Nitish Kumar will take the oath as Chief Minister on Thursday, November 20, at a large public ceremony in Patna’s historic Gandhi Maidan.
This will be his first swearing-in at the venue in a decade, with previous ceremonies held there in 2005, 2010 and 2015. Officials relocated the 2020 ceremony to Raj Bhavan due to pandemic constraints.
Sources indicated that the government will swear in around 20 ministers alongside Kumar. The ceremony will commence at 1 PM, with Governor Khan administering the oath at 1:30 PM.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, several Union Ministers and Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states are likely to attend the event, drawing significant national attention.
Authorities have implemented extensive security and traffic arrangements along the route from Patna Airport to Gandhi Maidan to manage the high-profile movement.
With the transition now underway, the NDA prepares to start a new term under Nitish Kumar’s leadership, marking yet another pivotal moment in Bihar’s political landscape.
