AIMIM Registers Strong Gains In Seemanchal As NDA Dominates Statewide Count

AIMIM leads in five Seemanchal seats as the NDA races past 200 seats in Bihar. Early trends reflect the party’s regional influence and shifting political dynamics.

AIMIM Registers Strong Gains In Seemanchal As NDA Dominates Statewide Count

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) delivered a notable performance in Bihar’s Seemanchal region on Thursday, with early counting trends at 2 PM placing the party ahead in five constituencies.

According to the Election Commission of India, AIMIM registered leads in Jokihat (Araria), Kochadhaman (Kishanganj), Amour (Purnea), Baisi (Purnea), and Thakurganj (Kishanganj).

Four of these seats, Jokihat, Kochadhaman, Amour, and Baisi, were previously won by the party in the 2020 Assembly elections, underscoring its continuing influence in this Muslim-majority belt.

The party has long sought to consolidate its base here, where demographic patterns have historically shaped electoral outcomes.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, sidelined by the INDIA bloc earlier this year, had announced plans to field candidates in 100 constituencies.

However, the party formalised a shortlist of 25 candidates on 19 October, including two non-Muslims, a deliberate attempt to appeal to a broader voter base.

In 2020, AIMIM stunned observers by clinching five Seemanchal seats. However, the gains proved short-lived as four of its MLAs later defected to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), leaving only Akhtarul Iman of Amour with the party. Iman’s current lead reinforces AIMIM’s remaining influence in its bastion.

Seemanchal’s Electoral Significance Remains High

Seemanchal, covering the districts of Araria, Kishanganj, Katihar and Purnea, accounts for 24 Assembly constituencies and holds one of Bihar’s largest concentrations of Muslim voters. The region’s political mood often diverges from statewide trends, making it a focal point for parties seeking to expand their footprint.

While AIMIM retains pockets of strength, the broader state results paint a decisive picture.

The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has surged past the 200-seat mark, setting the stage for a commanding mandate.

The BJP leads in 91 seats, emerging as the single largest party, followed by the JD(U) with 79. Alliance partners LJP (Ram Vilas), Rashtriya Lok Morcha, and HAMS posted leads in 22, four, and four seats, respectively.

In stark contrast, the Mahagathbandhan trailed at just 36 seats, marking one of its weakest performances in the state.
