As vote counting began for the 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLC Sunil Singh warned election authorities about potential unrest.
MLC Sunil Singh said that if officials manipulate the counting process, Bihar could witness chaos similar to Nepal or Bangladesh.
He urged all personnel to perform their duties with integrity and transparency.
MLC Singh told the media that RJD and alliance workers remain fully alert across the state.
He called on the counting centre staff to carry out responsibilities honestly and avoid serving political interests.
He stressed that any deviation from proper procedures could spark public anger and disorder.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) assured strict enforcement of rules and zero tolerance for any malpractice.
Counting began at 8 am in 46 centres across 38 districts, with multiple security measures, including CCTV surveillance and police deployment, to maintain order.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rejected Singh’s remarks, saying the opposition attempted to undermine institutions instead of accepting possible outcomes.
BJP leaders claimed MLC Singh’s statements reflected the opposition’s desperation and called for calm among their supporters.
Political analysts observed that Singh’s warning reflected rising tensions during a high-stakes election.
They said the results would determine whether Nitish Kumar secures a fifth term or the opposition makes significant gains.
Experts cautioned that while political rhetoric can influence public perception, the real test depends on how the counting process is executed and monitored.
Election officials stressed that all parties must respect the democratic process and trust the system’s transparency.
The ECI urged citizens to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified claims or rumours, which could trigger unnecessary tension.
Counting day in Bihar highlighted the challenges of managing a crucial, closely contested election.
Strong statements from political leaders can heighten emotions, but officials maintained that adherence to rules, vigilance, and transparency would keep the process credible and peaceful.
Observers said Bihar’s election counting demonstrated the importance of robust election management and effective security.
They added that disciplined oversight ensures free and fair results.
