PM Modi Honours Mahatma Gandhi & Lal Bahadur Shastri; Vows To Build A Viksit Bharat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Raj Ghat in New Delhi on Thursday to offer floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary.

Observed globally as the International Day of Non-Violence, Gandhi Jayanti celebrates the Mahatma’s enduring message of peace, truth, and social justice.

In a heartfelt message on X, PM Modi wrote, “Gandhi Jayanti is about paying homage to the extraordinary life of beloved Bapu, whose ideals transformed the course of human history. He demonstrated how courage and simplicity could become instruments of great change. He believed in the power of service and compassion as essential means of empowering people.”

Reaffirming his commitment to Gandhi’s values, the Prime Minister added that India would continue to walk on Bapu’s path in its quest to build a Viksit Bharat.

Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of ahimsa (non-violence) and satyagraha (truth) shaped India’s freedom movement and continues to inspire global movements for peace and equality.

His life stands as a testament to the power of moral courage, simplicity, and unwavering faith in humanity.

PM Modi’s homage underscored the government’s resolve to embed Gandhian principles in national development, particularly through initiatives promoting cleanliness, self-reliance, and inclusive growth.

Remembering Lal Bahadur Shastri

On the same day, PM Modi paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, describing him as an ‘extraordinary statesman’ who strengthened India through integrity, humility, and decisive leadership.

Born on 2 October 1904 in Mughalsarai, Uttar Pradesh, Shastri rose from humble beginnings to become India’s second Prime Minister in 1964.

He is further best remembered for his iconic slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’, which saluted the nation’s soldiers and farmers, symbolising the twin pillars of India’s strength.

Sharing his tribute on X, PM Modi wrote, “Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji was an extraordinary statesman whose integrity, humility and determination strengthened India, including during challenging times. He personified exemplary leadership, strength and decisive action. His clarion call of ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’ ignited a spirit of patriotism among our people.”

The Prime Minister emphasised that both Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri continue to inspire India’s journey towards self-reliance and national development.

Moreover, their timeless ideals of simplicity, service, and sacrifice remain guiding lights as the nation strives for Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat.
