Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday described the establishment of 57 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) as a landmark step in expanding access to quality education.
He highlighted that the new schools will include Balvatikas, providing foundational education for children from the pre-primary stage, while also generating employment opportunities.

Several students will benefit, alongside the creation of many jobs. Cabinet Approves KVs Across the Country
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by the Prime Minister, approved the opening of 57 KVs under the Civil sector to cater to the educational needs of wards of Central Government employees.
The total estimated expenditure for the project is Rs 5,862.55 crore, spread over nine years from 2026-27. This includes Rs 2,585.52 crore for capital expenditure and Rs 3,277.03 crore for operational costs, according to the CCEA.
For the first time, the government has sanctioned these KVs with Balvatikas in line with NEP 2020, providing foundational learning from age three.
The Ministry of Home Affairs will sponsor seven of the new KVs, while State and Union Territory authorities will manage the remaining 50.
Among the 57 new schools, 20 will be located in districts without existing KVs, 14 in aspirational districts, four in LWE-affected areas, and five in the Northeast and hilly regions.
This approval follows the sanctioning of 85 new KVs in December 2024. The government has given priority to the latest batch of States that had not received new KVs since March 2019, further strengthening access to quality education nationwide.
With this move, the government aims to provide a robust educational infrastructure, ensure equitable opportunities for children across diverse regions, and reinforce its commitment to holistic and inclusive growth.
