PM Modi Expresses Grief Over Passing Of Senior BJP Leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed profound grief over the demise of senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra, calling him an ‘outstanding leader’ with a deep understanding of people’s concerns.

Malhotra, who was born in December 1931 in Lahore, passed away early Tuesday morning at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. He was 93.

In a heartfelt message on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister wrote, “Shri Vijay Kumar Malhotra Ji distinguished himself as an outstanding leader, who had a very good understanding of people’s issues. He played a vital role in strengthening our party in Delhi. He is also remembered for his Parliamentary interventions. Pained by his passing away. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

A Lifelong Commitment to Public Service

Vijay Kumar Malhotra had an illustrious political career spanning over six decades. He served as a five-time Member of Parliament and a two-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Delhi.

He led the Delhi Pradesh Jana Sangh between 1972 and 1975 and twice helmed the BJP’s Delhi unit from 1977 to 1980 and again from 1980 to 1984.

Known for his simplicity and commitment to public service, Malhotra played a key role in shaping Delhi’s political framework. His leadership ensured the BJP’s steady presence in the capital during challenging years, earning him the reputation of being one of the party’s most respected figures.

Malhotra’s most notable political victory came in the 1999 Lok Sabha elections, where he defeated former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh by a significant margin.

Furthermore in the 2004 general elections, he stood as the only BJP candidate to secure a victory in Delhi.

According to the Delhi BJP, Malhotra’s political journey, alongside stalwarts such as Kedar Nath Sahni and Madan Lal Khurana, laid the foundation for the party’s growth in the national capital.

Tributes from Party Leaders

Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva also expressed deep sorrow at Malhotra’s passing, describing his life as ‘an example of simplicity and dedication to public service’.

He added, “Prof Vijay Kumar Malhotra worked extensively to spread the RSS ideology in Delhi since the Jan Sangh era. His life will continue to inspire generations of BJP workers.”

Meanwhile, with over 45 years of active service to Delhi’s political and social landscape, Vijay Kumar Malhotra leaves behind a legacy of integrity, dedication, and leadership.

His contributions to the BJP and the people of Delhi will be remembered with great respect and gratitude.
