PM Modi Writes Preface To Giorgia Meloni’s Autobiography; Italian PM Says She Feels ‘Deeply Honoured’

PM Narendra Modi described Italian PM Giorgia Meloni as an ‘extraordinary political leader who combines ideas and heart’.

PM Modi Writes Preface To Giorgia Meloni’s Autobiography

PM Narendra Modi described Italian PM Giorgia Meloni as an ‘extraordinary political leader who combines ideas and heart’ while writing the preface to her autobiography, I Am Giorgia. Prime Minister Modi called the book a form of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, or ‘ideas from the heart’.

In his preface, PM Modi emphasised the closeness of India and Italy. He underlined “shared civilising instincts, such as the defence of heritage, the strength of community, and the celebration of femininity as a guiding force.”

PM Modi also noted that the book reflects the spirit of balancing tradition with modernity, something both leaders have in common.

Italian PM Giorgia Meloni expressed gratitude for Prime Minister Modi’s gesture. “The words of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for whom I have profound respect, in his preface to the Indian edition of the book I Am Giorgia, deeply touch and honour me. I sincerely reciprocate these sentiments with all my heart, as they testify to the strong bond between our nations,” she said in a statement reported by Italian news agency Adnkronos.

PM Modi Calls Book ‘An Inspiring Tale’

PM Modi said he felt honoured to write the preface, calling the autobiography “an inspiring tale of an extraordinary contemporary political leader and patriot.” The Indian edition of Meloni’s autobiography will be released under the title I Am Giorgia, My Roots, My Principles.

Italian media underlined the symbolic importance of PM Modi’s preface, noting that he has written only two others before, one in 2014 for Anandiben Patel’s book and another in 2017 for Hema Malini’s autobiography.

The gesture, therefore, carries political and personal weight, given the growing ties between the two leaders.

The relationship between PM Modi and Meloni has attracted global attention since December 1, 2023, when Meloni posted a selfie with Prime Minister Modi at COP28 in Dubai.

The hashtag #Melodi has since gone viral across X, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, generating hundreds of millions of views and sparking interest each time the two leaders meet.

PM Modi concluded his preface by defining the book not merely as an autobiography but as ‘his Mann Ki Baat’, connecting it to his monthly radio programme that has become a signature element of his communication with Indians since 2014.
