PM Modi Congratulates Mohanlal On Receiving Dadasaheb Phalke Award

PM Narendra Modi congratulated Malayalam superstar Mohanlal as the government conferred him with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023.

Sharing a picture with the actor on X, PM Modi praised Mohanlal’s versatility and decades-long contribution to Indian cinema.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Shri Mohanlal Ji epitomises excellence and versatility. With a rich body of work spanning decades, he stands as a leading light of Malayalam cinema, theatre and is deeply passionate about the culture of Kerala. He has also delivered remarkable performances in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi films.”

“His cinematic and theatrical brilliance across mediums is truly inspiring. Congratulations to him on being conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. May his accomplishments continue to inspire generations to come,” he further added.

Government Announces the Honour

On Saturday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting officially announced Mohanlal’s selection for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023.

The ministry stated, “On the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, the Government of India proudly announces that Shri Mohanlal will receive the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023.”

The ministry highlighted Mohanlal’s remarkable journey in cinema, noting that his talent and versatility have inspired generations.

“The government is honouring the legendary actor, director, and producer for his iconic contribution to Indian cinema. His unmatched talent, versatility, and relentless hard work have set a golden standard in Indian film history,” the post read.

Officials will formally present the award to the actor at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23.

The Government of India has earlier recognised Mohanlal’s contribution to cinema with the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2019. In 2009, the Territorial Army awarded him the honorary rank of lieutenant colonel, making him the first Indian actor to receive it.
