As India celebrates Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, stories of lives transformed under his flagship initiatives continue to inspire.
One such story comes from Nahaka village in Vyasanagar Municipality, Jajpur district, Odisha, where Ravindra Kumar Sahu has rebuilt his life through the Jan Aushadhi Kendra scheme.
Once a contractor, Ravindra suffered severe financial losses that left him in debt and under immense mental stress. With a family to support and no steady income, his future appeared uncertain. A chance encounter at Bhubaneswar changed everything.

While passing by AIIMS Hospital, Ravindra noticed a Jan Aushadhi Kendra beside a poster of Prime Minister Modi.
Intrigued, he stepped inside and spoke with the store owner. The initiative impressed him, a government-backed programme that provides affordable medicines to the public while offering entrepreneurs a livelihood.
Motivated by the visit, Ravindra applied online to open his own Jan Aushadhi Kendra in Vyasanagar. After approval, he established the store at Nahaka Chhak with full government support.
Today, Ravindra’s store has become a vital source of affordable healthcare in the region.
High-quality generic medicines are now accessible to residents, easing financial burdens for many families. The venture has also employed his two younger brothers, giving the family stability and renewed hope.
“I am thankful to Prime Minister Modi for launching this scheme. It gave me a second chance at life and allowed me to serve my community,” Ravindra says emotionally.
Residents echo his appreciation. “We get all the essential medicines here at a much lower price. It’s a blessing for families like ours,” says one customer.
Ravindra’s story stands as a testament to how government initiatives like Jan Aushadhi Kendra not only improve access to healthcare but also empower citizens through entrepreneurship, reflecting the broader impact of PM Modi’s vision for inclusive development.
