Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bihar’s Purnea district on September 15 to inaugurate a slew of high-impact development projects collectively valued at around ₹36,000 crore.
His visit is expected to significantly boost connectivity, energy infrastructure, agriculture, and rural livelihoods in the region.
The centrepiece of this visit will be the inauguration of Purnea Airport, which will become Bihar’s fourth operational commercial airport after Patna, Gaya, and Darbhanga. The newly constructed Interim Terminal Building at the Civil Enclave of Purnea is expected to improve air connectivity across northeastern Bihar.
In keeping with the government’s thrust on infrastructure, the Prime Minister will also lay foundation stones and inaugurate key railway lines. These include the ₹2,170 crore Bikramshila-Katareah rail line and the ₹4,410 crore Araria–Galgalia line.
The Prime Minister will flag off new rail services, including the Jogbani–Danapur Vande Bharat Express and the Saharsa–Chheharta and Jogbani–Erode Amrit Bharat Express trains.
These additions will enhance connectivity across multiple districts, including Purnea, Araria, Saharsa, Madhepura, and Patna, and link Bihar more effectively with Punjab and Tamil Nadu.
Agricultural Boost with National Makhana Board
Recognising Bihar’s contribution to India’s makhana production, PM Modi will launch the National Makhana Board.
Aimed at promoting research, processing, and export of makhana, the initiative will benefit districts like Madhubani, Darbhanga, and Supaul, major centres of makhana cultivation.
Among the largest investments, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a 3×800 MW thermal power plant in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur.
Developed using ultra-supercritical low-emission technology, the ₹25,000 crore project represents Bihar’s largest private-sector energy investment.
The government will launch Phase 1 of the ₹2,680 crore Kosi-Mechi Intra-State River Link Project to improve irrigation infrastructure and mitigate flood risks in northeastern Bihar.
Further advancing rural development, the Prime Minister will inaugurate a Sex-Sorted Semen Facility in Purnea, the first in eastern and northeastern India, under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission. With an annual production capacity of five lakh doses, the facility will aid dairy farmers by increasing the chances of female calf births.
PM Modi will also hand over homes to 35,000 rural and nearly 6,000 urban beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
The government will distribute ₹500 crore in Community Investment Funds to women-led federations under the DAY-NRLM programme.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda will join Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bihar next week, highlighting the political and developmental importance of the announcements.
