Dr Udai Shanker Awasthi, one of the most respected figures in India’s fertiliser and cooperative sectors, has officially announced his retirement from Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO).
He stepped down from his role as Managing Director and CEO on 31st July 2025, at the age of 80, after an illustrious 58-year career, including 32½ years of service at IFFCO.
Having served as Chief Executive for nearly four decades across leading organisations such as Pyrites, Phosphates and Chemicals Limited (PPCL), Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers Limited (RCF), and finally IFFCO, Dr Awasthi’s leadership has significantly shaped the Indian fertiliser landscape.
Deep Gratitude and Enduring Friendships
In his farewell message, Dr Awasthi expressed heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support he received throughout his career.
He highlighted the many enduring friendships he has built across various domains—ranging from art, music, and wildlife to engineering, administration, and diplomacy.
He fondly recalled meaningful associations with Hon’ble Ministers, Presidents, Prime Ministers, and even His Majesty the Kings and Sultans from across the globe.
These relationships, he noted, enriched both his professional and personal life immeasurably.
Dr Awasthi leaves behind a legacy that includes strengthening India’s cooperative movement, improving fertiliser self-sufficiency, and elevating IFFCO into one of the world’s largest fertiliser cooperatives.
His deep connection with farmers, cooperators, professionals, subsidiaries, and joint venture partners helped create a vast, resilient network committed to rural and agricultural growth.
While he is stepping away from official responsibilities, Dr Awasthi has made it clear that his commitment to public service—particularly in the field of environmental protection—remains strong.
He assured colleagues and associates that he would always be available for guidance and support.
“My doors are always open,” he said, inviting continued engagement and collaboration even after his retirement.
As he bids farewell to an extraordinary chapter, Dr Awasthi remains an enduring figure of inspiration.
His contributions to the fertiliser industry, cooperative sector, and rural development will continue to guide future generations.
