Amit Shah Expresses Concern Over Kathua Cloudburst; Assures Full Support

A cloudburst in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, has resulted in four fatalities and multiple injuries. In response, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held discussions with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the Chief Minister, assuring the provision of all necessary assistance to the affected region.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah personally updated the public on social media, stating that relief and rescue operations are underway with NDRF teams already at the site.

Taking to X, Shah posted, “Spoke with the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir regarding the cloudburst in Kathua. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out by the local administration and NDRF teams have also been rushed to the site. Assured every support from the Modi government. We stand firmly behind our sisters and brothers of J&K.”

LG Manoj Sinha Expresses Grief

Earlier, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy.

“The devastating landslides caused by rainfall in several areas of Kathua have deeply distressed me over the loss of life and property. This tragedy is heart-wrenching. I briefed Union Home Minister Amit Shah on how the Army, NDRF, SDRF, police, and administration are conducting relief and rescue operations,” he stated.

Sinha further instructed police officers to coordinate relief work and ensure medical assistance reached the affected areas. He extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished for a speedy recovery of the injured.

The cloudburst struck the Jungleot area during the night between Saturday and Sunday. This is the second such incident in Jammu and Kashmir within four days; a similar cloudburst had occurred in Chashoti village, Kishtwar district, on August 14.

Authorities have recovered 65 bodies so far and rescued more than 100 people from the affected regions. Relief and rescue operations are ongoing as teams work to provide aid and assess further damage.
