During the seventh day of the Monsoon Session, PM Narendra Modi delivered a detailed statement in the Lok Sabha on Operation Sindoor.
He highlighted India’s rapid military action against terror camps in Pakistan and PoK, dismissed US President Donald Trump’s claims of brokering peace, and criticised the Congress for undermining national interest.
Operation Sindoor: A Swift Response to Terror
PM Modi described Operation Sindoor as a key step in India’s new anti-terror policy.
He said that on May 7, 2025, in just 22 minutes, Indian forces hit nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, destroying seven.
Over 100 terrorists, including members of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen, were killed. ‘We turned their bases into ashes. This is a new India that can go to any extent to fight terrorism’, he said.
Pahalgam Attack & India’s Retaliation
PM Modi recalled the April 22 Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed.
Calling it ‘an attack on the nation’s spirit’, he said, ‘Terrorists tried to break India’s morale, but Operation Sindoor was our answer.’
He also referred to Operation Mahadev, in which the mastermind Suleman Shah and two other terrorists were neutralised.
PM Modi Rejects Trump’s Ceasefire Claim
Countering Donald Trump’s statement that he stopped the conflict, PM Modi said, “No world leader asked India to halt Operation Sindoor.”
He revealed that on May 9, US Vice President JD Vance tried to contact him about a possible Pakistani attack.
“I told him if that was their plan, they would pay a heavy price.India answers bullets with shells.” PM Modi confirmed the ceasefire request came not from any foreign leader but from Pakistan’s DGMO on May 10.
Targeting Congress on National Security
PM Modi attacked the Congress, saying, ‘By questioning our forces, Congress speaks in Pakistan’s voice.”
He accused the party of importing issues from Pakistan and neglecting military self-reliance in the past governments.
Quoting the 1948 PoK episode, he remarked, “A slip of the lips punished generations.”
Opposition’s Allegations & Government’s Stand
Rahul Gandhi and other Congress MPs accused the government of restricting the armed forces, leading to aircraft losses.
PM Modi dismissed these claims, saying, ‘You may get headlines, but you cannot weaken our armed forces.”
He noted that only three nations backed Pakistan at the UN, while most supported India.
Symbol of Self-Reliant India
PM Modi hailed Operation Sindoor as proof of India’s defence progress. He said indigenous drones and missiles were used, exposing Pakistan’s military gaps.
He praised young private defence makers for their role, stating the operation reflected India’s strength in modern warfare.
Strong Warning to Pakistan
PM Modi warned that if Pakistan continues to support terrorism, India’s response will be even stronger.
“Terror and talks cannot go hand in hand. Operation Sindoor is paused, not over,” he said, noting the armed forces remain on high alert.
Appeal for National Unity
Concluding his address, PM Modi urged unity, “After Pahalgam, the nation stood together. Operation Sindoor showed the world India’s strength. Political differences must not override national interest.”
Ministers’ Inputs & Global Support
Before PM Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the operation hit terror targets while avoiding civilian casualties.
Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the success of Operation Mahadev. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India gained global support, with Quad and BRICS condemning the Pahalgam attack.
PM Modi also announced the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty until Pakistan ends support for terrorism.
