The Rajya Sabha will begin a detailed debate on Operation Sindoor on Tuesday as part of the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
With Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to participate, the session is likely to be a pivotal moment in the national security discourse.
The debate follows Monday’s intense discussion in the Lok Sabha, where Defence Minister Rajnath Singh gave a strong statement outlining India’s military response to the deadly April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
The attack claimed 26 lives, including several tourists, prompting a swift and coordinated military action.
Operation Sindoor, launched on 7 May, was a joint initiative by the Indian Army, Air Force, and intelligence agencies to dismantle terror infrastructure across the Line of Control.
Rajnath Singh told the Lok Sabha that the armed forces eliminated over 100 terrorists and destroyed nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir through precision strikes.
“This is a new India,” Singh declared in Parliament. “If provoked again, we will not hesitate to act decisively.”
His comments drew significant applause, indicating strong support across the ruling benches.
Diplomatic Engagement and Global Support
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, also speaking in the Lok Sabha, underscored the diplomatic efforts that accompanied the military operation.
He noted that India had received wide international support, highlighting the government’s effective global outreach.
“The world stood by us because we communicated clearly and acted responsibly,” Jaishankar remarked, emphasising the operation’s alignment with India’s broader strategic goals
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who praised the speeches of both Singh and Jaishankar, is likely to address the Rajya Sabha during the debate.
“Their words reflect the spirit of New India—resilient, courageous, and clear in intent,” he stated.
His expected participation underlines the operation’s importance in the government’s security agenda and reinforces India’s commitment to countering terrorism with strength and clarity.
As the Rajya Sabha takes up the matter, today’s discussion will delve deeper into the execution, outcomes, and future implications of Operation Sindoor.
