Security forces engaged terrorists in a brief gunfight on Sunday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district. Officials reported the Kishtwar encounter after troops launched a cordon and search operation in the Khankoo forest zone.
Forces moved into the belt between Dachhan and Nagseni after specific intelligence on armed movement. Troops tightened the cordon. The hiding terrorists opened fire. Security personnel returned accurate fire. The exchange lasted a short span.
Commanders rushed reinforcements to seal escape routes. Forces widened the search grid. Troops used thermal imagers and drones to scan hollows and nullahs. Joint parties continue the operation. Senior officers supervise sweeps.
Reinforced Search After Initial Contact
Army White Knight Corps confirmed contact on X. Its post said that based on precise inputs, troops launched an operation in the Hadal Gal area within the broader Kishtwar Sector.
The Corps stated that soldiers had established contact and that the Kishtwar encounter remained in progress. Police coordinated flank security and local domination patrols. Agencies also screened the Over Ground Worker networks for facilitation links.
Security forces have sustained aggressive counterterror pressure across Jammu and Kashmir this season. Units have targeted active modules, Over Ground Workers, couriers and harbourers. The intensified posture aims to dismantle residual support chains.
The sharpened pursuit followed the 22 April massacre at Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam, executed by Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists.
Twenty-six civilians died in that strike, including twenty-five tourists and one local resident. Outrage followed nationwide. Prime Minister Narendra Modi granted the forces a free hand to neutralise perpetrators and planners.
Forces later launched Operation Sindoor. Strikes targeted identified terror infrastructure at depth, including reported sites at Muridke near Lahore, Bahawalpur, Kotli and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Officials said nine terror infrastructures were destroyed. Follow-on escalation degraded Pakistan army-linked facilities supporting cross-border militancy. Search operations in Kishtwar continue. Forces maintain heightened vigilance.
