Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to the United Kingdom and the Maldives from 23 to 26 July, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Sunday.
The visit, divided into two key legs, aims to bolster India’s bilateral relations and strategic partnerships with both nations.
UK Visit: Enhancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
PM Modi’s visit to the United Kingdom comes at the invitation of Prime Minister Keir Starmer. It will be his fourth visit to the UK, where he will engage in wide-ranging discussions with his British counterpart.
The two leaders will discuss the full spectrum of the India-UK bilateral relationship, including trade, technology, defence, health, education, and climate cooperation.
PM Modi will also call on King Charles III, marking a significant moment in diplomatic relations.
Both sides will review the progress made under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), which aims to foster deeper cooperation across sectors critical to mutual growth and global stability.
Maldives Visit: A Special Role in a Historic Celebration
In the second leg of his trip, Prime Minister Modi will visit the Maldives from 25 to 26 July, at the invitation of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. This marks his third visit to the island nation and the first by any Head of State or Government during President Muizzu’s tenure.
Significantly, PM Modi will serve as the ‘Guest of Honour’ at the 60th Independence Day celebrations of the Maldives on 26 July—a testament to the strong ties between the two nations.
During the visit, he will meet President Muizzu for high-level talks focused on regional and economic cooperation.
The two leaders will assess progress made under the India-Maldives Joint Vision for a Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership, which was jointly adopted during President Muizzu’s visit to India in October 2024.
Discussions will centre around maritime collaboration, trade, and regional security, reflecting the shared interests of the two nations in the Indian Ocean region.
The MEA underlined that this visit underscores the importance India places on its maritime neighbour, which continues to occupy a special place in its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and Vision MAHASAGAR.
It also presents a timely opportunity to further deepen diplomatic, economic, and security ties.
By engaging at both global and regional levels, PM Modi’s visit will reinforce India’s commitment to strategic cooperation, sustainable development, and peace in the Indo-Pacific region.
