
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Brasilia on Monday, greeted by members of the Indian diaspora who welcomed him with great enthusiasm.
Touched by the warm reception, PM Modi described it as a ‘memorable welcome’ and commended the diaspora for their enduring connection to Indian culture and heritage.

Alongside his message, he posted photographs showing the excited diaspora waving the Indian Tricolour and greeting him with folded hands.
Brazilian Defence Minister José Múcio Monteiro Filho received PM Modi upon arrival and welcomed him with a vibrant traditional Samba Reggae performance, showcasing Brazil’s rich cultural heritage.

PM @narendramodi has landed in the capital city of Brasilia on a State Visit to Brazil. On arrival, he was warmly received by Mr. José Múcio Monteiro Filho, Minister of Defence of Brasília, at the airport. The welcome was made delightfully musical by the traditional Brazilian Samba Reggae performance.”

PM Modi also praised the performing Batala Mundo band, noting their global effort to promote Afro-Brazilian percussion, particularly Samba Reggae from Salvador da Bahia.
Productive BRICS Summit in Rio
Earlier in the day, PM Modi described his time at the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro as ‘very productive’.

He noted extensive deliberations and expressed appreciation for Brazil’s effective leadership of the BRICS Presidency.
PM Modi said his bilateral meetings with world leaders at the summit would further strengthen India’s international friendships.
At the BRICS session on the Environment, COP-30, and Global Health, PM Modi underscored the importance of climate change and environmental safety, declaring them top priorities for India.
“For us, it is not just about energy, it is about maintaining a balance between life and nature,” he said.
PM Modi welcomed Brazil’s chairmanship of BRICS and the prioritisation of environment and health security, calling these issues ‘extremely important for the bright future of humanity’.
With Brazil hosting COP-30 this year, he described the timing as both relevant and timely.
He explained that Indian culture respects the Earth as a mother, saying, “When Mother Earth needs us, we always respond. We are transforming our mindset, our behaviour, and our lifestyle.”
India’s initiatives for sustainability
Guided by the spirit of ‘People, Planet, and Progress’, PM Modi highlighted India’s flagship initiatives such as Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (A Tree in the Name of Mother), the International Solar Alliance, and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.
He also mentioned the Green Hydrogen Mission, the Global Biofuels Alliance, and the Big Cats Alliance.
During India’s G20 Presidency, PM Modi said, India emphasised sustainable development and bridged the gap between the Global North and South, achieving consensus on the Green Development Pact.
To encourage eco-friendly actions, India launched the Green Credits Initiative.
PM Modi’s State Visit to Brasilia signifies a strengthening of India-Brazil relations, with detailed talks planned with President Lula to explore cooperation in trade, technology, clean energy, and cultural exchange.
The visit reinforces the steadfast partnership between the two democracies, particularly in tackling shared challenges like climate change and sustainable development.
