Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Brasília on Monday for a State Visit, following his participation in the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
Brazil’s Defence Minister José Múcio Monteiro Filho received him at the airport upon arrival, greeting him with a vibrant traditional Samba Reggae performance that reflected Brazil’s warm hospitality.
Sharing the moment on X (formerly Twitter), Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted, “Taking new strides in India-Brasília steadfast partnership. PM @narendramodi has landed in the capital city of Brasilia on a State Visit to Brazil. On arrival, he was warmly received by Mr. José Múcio Monteiro Filho, Minister of Defence of Brasília, at the airport. The welcome was made delightfully musical by the traditional Brazilian Samba Reggae performance.”

The visit signals a renewed momentum in India-Brazil bilateral ties.
PM Modi will meet Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for wide-ranging talks on key areas such as trade, technology, clean energy, cultural exchange, and South-South cooperation.
Productive Rio visit & BRICS engagement
Before departing Rio de Janeiro, PM Modi described his time there as ‘very productive’.
In a post on X, he wrote: “The Rio leg of my Brazil visit was very productive. We had extensive deliberations at the BRICS Summit. I compliment President Lula and the Brazilian Government for the work they’ve done through their BRICS Presidency in making this platform even more effective. My bilateral meetings with world leaders will also boost India’s friendship with various nations.”

He also praised President Lula and the Brazilian government for their effective BRICS presidency, noting that his bilateral meetings during the summit had strengthened India’s global friendships.
Focus on environment & health at BRICS
Speaking at the BRICS session on the Environment, COP-30, and Global Health, PM Modi underlined India’s commitment to climate action, sustainability, and public health.
He stressed that climate justice is a moral obligation for India, not merely a policy choice.
“Climate change and environmental safety have always been top priorities for India. For us, it’s not just about energy, it’s about maintaining a balance between life and nature,” he said.
Referring to Indian traditions, PM Modi said, “We respect the Earth as a mother in our culture, and that’s why we always respond when Mother Earth calls upon us.”
PM Modi also highlighted India’s global environmental initiatives, such as Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), the International Solar Alliance, the Green Hydrogen Mission, and the Global Biofuels Alliance.
He noted that during India’s G20 Presidency, the country played a key role in achieving consensus on the Green Development Pact and introduced the Green Credits Initiative to promote sustainable action.
As PM Modi begins his State Visit in Brasília, the focus will be on reinforcing the strategic partnership between two of the largest democracies in the Global South.
PM Modi and President Lula will likely strengthen cooperation in economic development, climate resilience, and multilateral coordination.
