The atmosphere turned festive Friday night as members of the Indian diaspora chanted ‘Modi-Modi’, ‘Jai Hind’, and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, showcasing their excitement and pride.

The cultural welcome included a classical Indian dance performance, reflecting India’s artistic traditions and strengthening people-to-people connections abroad.

PM Modi also took time to interact personally with attendees, signing autographs and exchanging greetings, making the moment memorable for many.

His arrival followed a ceremonial welcome at Ezeiza International Airport, underlining the diplomatic importance of the visit.

This marks the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina in nearly six decades, adding historic weight to the occasion.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Landed in Buenos Aires for a bilateral visit which will focus on augmenting relations with Argentina. I’m eager to be meeting President Javier Milei and holding detailed talks with him.”

Official itinerary highlights

During his two-day visit, PM Modi will pay tribute at the statue of General José de San Martín, attend an official reception, and participate in delegation-level talks with President Milei. The visit will also include a formal luncheon hosted by President Milei in his honour.

PM Modi is undertaking the trip as part of his broader five-nation tour to strengthen ties with countries across the Global South.

India and Argentina’s relationship, upgraded to a Strategic Partnership in 2019, covers cooperation in trade, defence, health, agriculture, green energy, digital innovation, and education.

The year 2024 also marked the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations, emphasizing the significance of this high-level engagement.
