Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking to the Indian community in Trinidad and Tobago, emphasised that India is currently the fastest-growing major economy and is rapidly ascending to become the third-largest worldwide.
He underscored the inclusive nature of this growth, which is ‘reaching the most needy’ via comprehensive welfare schemes at both central and state levels.
“The World Bank has noted that India has lifted more than 250 million people above extreme poverty in the last decade,” PM Modi remarked, attributing this success to the energy and innovation of India’s youth.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s remarkable achievements in technology and entrepreneurship:
- Start‑Up Boom: India ranks third globally in start‑up numbers, with nearly 50% featuring women directors. Around 120 start‑ups have achieved unicorn status.
- National Missions: India is advancing under flagship initiatives in Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, and quantum computing—symbolising a mass-driven innovation movement.
He praised India’s digital transformation, noting that its Unified Payments Interface (UPI) processes nearly half of the world’s real-time digital transactions.

Manufacturing, exports & space ambitions
Prime Minister Modi celebrated India’s rising industrial and export capabilities:
- Manufacturing Surge: India has become the world’s second-largest manufacturer of mobile phones and is exporting railway locomotives globally.
- Defence Exports: Defence exports have increased 20-fold over the past decade, signifying India’s role in global security supply.
PM Modi also touched on India’s space achievements:
- Chandrayaan-3: The Moon landing site renamed ‘Shiv Shakti Point’ symbolises India’s celestial ambitions.
- Gaganyaan Mission: India has an astronaut aboard the International Space Station as it readies its first human spaceflight, aiming next to establish its own space station.
Encouraging Family & diaspora engagement
PM Modi further invited members of the diaspora to reconnect with India by visiting their ancestral villages.
“Bring your children, bring your neighbours… We will welcome you all—with open arms, warm hearts, and jalebi!” he said, urging everyone to rediscover their roots.
He also thanked the Indian community in Trinidad and Tobago for their warm reception and praised local leadership, particularly PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar for her gracious hospitality and for conferring the country’s highest civilian honour on him.
PM Modi’s address in Trinidad and Tobago reflected India’s remarkable economic transformation—anchored in technology, inclusive growth, and global ambition—while reinforcing ties with the Indian diaspora.
With its current trajectory, India is not just aspiring to be the world’s third-largest economy but leading a movement of innovation, welfare, and shared prosperity.
