Elon Musk has called for the impeachment of US President Donald Trump and announced the immediate decommissioning of SpaceX’s critical Dragon spacecraft programme.
The announcement followed Musk’s allegation that Trump’s name appears in the Epstein files, according to multiple media reports.
Musk posted on X, stating, “In light of the President’s statement about cancellation of my government contracts, @SpaceX will begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately.”

This move threatens the future of a vital programme that has played a key role in ferrying NASA astronauts and cargo to the International Space Station (ISS).
Dragon Spacecraft Crucial To ISS Operations
CNN reported that the Dragon spacecraft has been indispensable, especially after it enabled the return of two NASA astronauts stranded on the ISS for nine months.
SpaceX also highlighted that the Dragon is ‘the only spacecraft currently flying that is capable of returning significant amounts of cargo to Earth’, underscoring its strategic importance.

Relations between Trump and Musk deteriorated further when the President threatened to ‘terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts’.
Such a step could significantly damage Musk’s business interests and disrupt operations related to the ISS.
Trump posted on his own social media platform, Truth Social: “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. Always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!”
Epstein Files Allegation Sparks Further Fallout
Musk escalated the dispute by alleging that Trump’s name appears in the Epstein files, which he claims explain why details of the investigation remain undisclosed to the public.
“Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” Musk wrote on X.

In response, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed Musk’s comments as ‘an unfortunate episode from Elon’, blaming Musk’s dissatisfaction on the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ legislation, which Musk criticised for lacking the policies he desired.
She added, “The President is focusing on passing this historic piece of legislation and making our country great again.”
Dispute Over ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ And EV Tax Credits
During a press conference in the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump suggested that Musk opposes his ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ because it removes electric vehicle (EV) incentives.
He further questioned if he would remain friends with Musk, accusing the Tesla CEO of knowing the ‘inner workings of the bill’.
Musk responded on X, calling the accusations ‘very unfair’.
Criticising the bill for keeping oil and gas subsidies while removing EV tax credits, he further added, “False, this bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!”

Rapid And Public Breakup
The public spat marks a sharp and rapid deterioration in the relationship between the US President and the world’s richest man, echoing the intensity with which their alliance began.
As Musk initiates the shutdown of a key space programme and levels serious allegations, the fallout is unfolding on the global stage.
