Patna has reported seven new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, raising concerns of a potential resurgence of the virus in the urban regions of Bihar’s capital.
Among those infected is a medical intern from Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH), currently undergoing training at the facility.
NMCH And Private Labs Confirm New COVID-19 Cases
Health officials confirmed that NMCH identified three of the new infections, while two private laboratories detected the remaining four.
Dr Avinash Kumar Singh, Civil Surgeon of Patna, stated that the NMCH tested 26 suspected patients on Friday, out of which three tested positive.
COVID-19 Spread Across Urban Areas
Various localities, including Kankarbagh, Agamkuan, and RPS Mor, have reported new cases, indicating the virus is gradually spreading in Patna’s urban zones.
Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Head of the Microbiology Department at NMCH, explained that the infected patients had visited different departments within the hospital.
“One patient had visited the Ophthalmology Department, another the Surgery Department, and the third was treated in the Medicine Department,” he said.
Authorities have advised all infected individuals to isolate at home, as their symptoms remain mild.
Patna now has 17 active COVID-19 cases, including five at AIIMS Patna, six at NMCH, and six reported from private labs and other hospitals.
Bihar Health Department Launches Oxygen Mock Drill
The Bihar Health Department has announced it will conduct a statewide oxygen mock drill on Saturday, following central government guidelines.
The drill aims to assess the readiness of the state’s oxygen infrastructure, including PSA oxygen generation plants, availability of oxygen cylinders, pipeline auditing, ICU bed functionality, and emergency preparedness among healthcare staff.
“We are intensifying efforts to ensure uninterrupted oxygen supply and emergency readiness in the event of a fresh Covid-19 wave,” said a senior health department official.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and adhere to COVID-appropriate behaviour, particularly in crowded urban areas and healthcare settings.
