
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended heartfelt birthday wishes to former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) President HD Deve Gowda, who turned 92 on Sunday.
In a message posted on X, PM Modi praised Gowda’s lifelong dedication to public service, describing him as a respected statesman whose insights continue to serve as a source of strength for the nation.
“Birthday wishes to our former Prime Minister, Shri HD Deve Gowda Ji. He is widely respected for his statesmanlike approach and passion towards public service. His wisdom and insights on several issues are a source of great strength. May he be blessed with a long and healthy life,” PM Modi wrote.

Born in 1933 in Haradanahalli, Karnataka, HD Deve Gowda served as the 11th Prime Minister of India from June 1996 to April 1997 and as the 14th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1994 to 1996.
Known for his agrarian roots and deep connection with the masses, he remains a sitting Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka.
HD Kumaraswamy, Union Minister and son of HD Deve Gowda, also celebrated his father’s legacy, expressing deep admiration and gratitude for his lifelong commitment to public service.
“My father is my strength, my courage, and my inspiration,” Kumaraswamy posted.
“His path of struggle, achievements, and unwavering commitment to public service has deeply influenced me. I pray to the Almighty to bless him with health and longevity.”

National Leaders Extend Wishes
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also joined in honouring Deve Gowda, applauding his steadfast contribution to national development.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari echoed similar sentiments, wishing Deve Gowda good health and a joyful year ahead.

Senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa and his son, Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra, also wished Deve Gowda well.
Vijayendra commended the former Prime Minister’s enduring impact on both Karnataka and national politics, noting, “His genuine concern for rural people and his contributions are symbols of enriched vitality for the children of the soil.”
He further added, “I pray that the Almighty blesses him with good health and a long life, so that he may continue to offer his invaluable guidance for the progress of the state and the nation.”
India marked the 92nd birthday of HD Deve Gowda, a towering statesman with decades of political experience.
