The National Commission for Women (NCW) has strongly criticised the online abuse and doxxing targeting Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and his daughter, which emerged in the wake of the recent ceasefire declaration between India and Pakistan.
The NCW called the abuse deeply irresponsible and morally indefensible.
Public Statement From NCW Chairperson
In a statement on X, NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar expressed deep concern over the incident, particularly condemning the unauthorised circulation of Misri’s daughter’s personal contact details.
“The National Commission for Women (#NCW) strongly condemns the reprehensible online abuse directed at the family of India’s Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri, particularly his daughter,” she said.
She further added, “Sharing the personal contact details of the Foreign Secretary’s daughter is an extremely irresponsible act. It is a serious breach of privacy that could endanger her safety.”

Appeal For Decency & Restraint
The Commission urged the public to maintain basic standards of decency and avoid dragging family members of public servants into political debates.
“Such personal attacks on the family members of senior public servants like Shri Vikram Misri are not only unacceptable but also morally indefensible. We urge everyone to show decency, civility, and restraint,” the NCW emphasised.
Political & Administrative Solidarity
Misri, who played a central role in announcing the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan on Saturday, has faced backlash on social media, including the targeted harassment of his family.
The abuse intensified with the leak of his personal number and directed attacks against his daughter.
Prominent political leaders, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi, condemned the attacks and expressed support for Misri.
Both highlighted how such actions harm the morale of civil servants dedicated to public service.
The Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Association also voiced its support for Misri and his family, stressing the importance of protecting the dignity and privacy of civil servants.
NCW Demands Legal Action
The NCW has called upon law enforcement authorities to identify and penalise those responsible for the cyber abuse and doxxing.
The Commission reiterated that protecting the families of public officials is essential for maintaining the integrity and morale of the administrative machinery.
Prime Minister Modi’s government has consistently maintained a policy of zero tolerance towards cyber abuse and harassment, and this latest incident has further reinforced calls for stricter enforcement of digital safety norms.
