Amit Shah Extends Greetings On Social Media

In a post shared on his official account on X (formerly Twitter), Shah lauded the historical and spiritual essence of the festival and its role in showcasing India’s diverse cultural unity.

“Greetings to our sisters and brothers of Kerala on the occasion of Thrissur Pooram. The festival, once initiated by the great Sakthan Thampuran displays the symphony of colours and rituals of our culture, and the ancient spirit of our unity marks the magnificence of our heritage,” HM Shah wrote.

Significance & History Of Thrissur Pooram

People hold Thrissur Pooram annually at the Vadakkunnathan Temple in Thrissur and regard it as the mother of all temple festivals in Kerala.

Sakthan Thampuran, the then ruler of the Kingdom of Cochin, conceptualised the event over two centuries ago to promote harmony among various temples and communities.

Today, thousands of devotees and tourists attend it, and they regard it as a powerful symbol of Kerala’s inclusive spiritual traditions.

The festival is most famous for its elephant processions, particularly the parade of richly caparisoned elephants representing rival temples, and the ‘Elanjithara Melam’, a spectacular display of traditional percussion music.

The fireworks display, held late into the night, also draws massive crowds and is known for its grandeur and technical brilliance.

Amit Shah Acknowledges Kerala’s Cultural Spirit

Amit Shah’s greeting highlights the central government’s recognition of Kerala’s rich cultural traditions.

Many users on social media appreciated the Home Minister’s message for acknowledging a festival deeply rooted in the socio-cultural fabric of the state.

His tribute comes at a time when efforts to preserve and promote India’s intangible cultural heritage are gaining renewed attention at both national and international levels.

As Kerala celebrated the event with devotion and colour, Shah’s words added to the festive atmosphere and reinforced the cultural pride associated with Thrissur Pooram.
