Karun Nair, one of the few Indian cricketers to score a triple century in Tests, has scripted a powerful IPL comeback.

On December 10, 2022, he posted a heartfelt plea on social media: “Dear cricket, give me one more chance.”

At that time, he was out of the Karnataka team and far from national reckoning.

That chance arrived on April 14, 2025, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Nair smashed a 40-ball 89 for Delhi Capitals against Mumbai Indians in his first IPL match in nearly three years. His old post instantly resurfaced, symbolizing his long wait and quiet perseverance.

Delhi Capitals introduced him as an impact player after an early loss.

Chasing 206, Nair faced the likes of Bumrah, Boult, and Chahar—and dismantled them. His 89-run blitz came 2520 days since his last IPL fifty.

Nair Destroys Bumrah With Confidence And Timing

Nair attacked Bumrah with precision and power. He lofted him over cover, then sliced one through point.

He whipped a six over deep square leg and brought up his fifty in 22 balls. Bumrah gave away 29 runs in just two overs.

In the post-match conference, Nair said he stayed ready.

“I kept preparing, trusted my game. I was waiting for my chance,” he said.

He added that he stayed alert against Bumrah. “I picked my shots and backed my instincts,” he explained.

Strike-Rate Surges As Karun Eyes Consistency

Since January 2023, Nair has lifted his T20 strike rate from 131.15 to 171.87. He said he worked on shot execution.

“My strike-rate was always good. It’s better now because of hard work,” he said.

Despite his knock, Delhi lost by 12 runs. Santner bowled Nair out, and the team collapsed. Nair expressed regret.

“I wanted to finish the game. I’ll learn from this,” he said.

His fiery knock now pushes him into DC’s top-order plans. Nair’s return proves that second chances, if taken, can rewrite stories.
