PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the New Pamban Bridge on Sunday and firmly countered allegations that the central government had underfunded Tamil Nadu.
He emphasized that the state’s infrastructure development remains a top priority for his administration.
PM Dismisses Allegations Of Inadequate Funding
Addressing a public gathering in Rameswaram, PM Modi criticized what he called ‘unjustified allegations’ regarding insufficient fund allocation to Tamil Nadu.
“The infrastructure of Tamil Nadu is a top priority for the government. In the past decade, the state’s rail budget has increased more than sevenfold. Despite this significant growth, some people continue to complain without justification,” he said.
PM Highlights Rail Budget Increase And Targets INDI Alliance
The Prime Minister drew a sharp contrast between the current government’s efforts and those of previous administrations, particularly those led by the INDI Alliance.
“Before 2014, Tamil Nadu received only ₹900 crore annually for rail projects. You all know who was heading the INDI Alliance at that time. Today, the rail budget for the state exceeds ₹6,000 crore,” Modi said, suggesting that earlier governments failed to prioritize Tamil Nadu’s development.
Grand Welcome For PM Modi In Rameswaram
BJP leaders warmly welcomed Prime Minister Modi as he arrived in Rameswaram city, Ramanathapuram district, to address the public following the inauguration of the New Pamban Bridge, India’s first vertical lift railway sea bridge.
Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw joined the event, along with Union Minister and BJP leader L Murugan, who presented Modi with a painting as a token of appreciation.
