The Immigration and Foreigners Bill 2025 was passed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during the debate, stated that while India welcomes visitors for tourism, education, healthcare, and business, strict action will be taken against those posing a threat to national security.

“India is not a ‘Dharamshala’ (shelter home). Those who contribute to the country’s development are welcome, but those who threaten national security will not be allowed in,” he said.

The Home Minister emphasized that the new law will enhance security, boost the economy, and support vital sectors like health and education.

He also said the bill would help India track foreigners entering the country.

Shah raised concerns about illegal infiltration, particularly by Rohingyas from Myanmar and Bangladeshis.

He warned that those entering India illegally for personal gain would face strict measures.

Illegal infiltration has increased, posing a serious risk, he stated. Additionally, he assured that while genuine visitors are welcome, the government will closely monitor and act against infiltrators.

Shah criticized the West Bengal government for delaying border fencing along the India-Bangladesh border.

He blamed the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) for obstructing the project, leaving 450 km of fencing incomplete.

Shah accused TMC workers of disrupting fencing efforts through hooliganism and religious sloganeering.

The delay, he said, has led to infiltration and the spread of illegal Aadhaar cards in South 24 Parganas.

The Home Minister assured that the government would soon take control of the situation and complete the fencing to curb illegal immigration.
