Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the Hyperloop project at IIT Madras will feature Asia’s longest Hyperloop tube, measuring 410 metres.
He said the project is on track to become the world’s longest Hyperloop tube soon.
Vaishnaw, who handles railways, information and broadcasting, and information technology, inspected the project during his visit to Chennai on March 15.
He shared a video of his visit on social media, stating, “Longest Hyperloop tube in Asia (410 meters)… soon to be the world’s longest @iitmadras.”

Advancing Hyperloop Technology
Hyperloop technology allows high-speed pods to travel in a near-vacuum tube, reducing air resistance and reaching speeds of over 1,000 km per hour.
It promises to transform future transportation.
Vaishnaw said India is making strong progress in Hyperloop technology.
The entire testing system is being developed locally.
He added that Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory will produce the electronic components, boosting India’s self-reliance in advanced transportation systems.
Vaishnaw confirmed that initial tests have delivered positive results. He said the project is moving closer to realizing Hyperloop transportation in India.
In May 2022, the railway ministry approved ₹8.34 crore for IIT Madras to develop and test the technology.
India’s progress in Hyperloop technology marks a major step toward future transportation.
