On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Delhi-NCR residents to remain calm and follow safety measures after an early morning earthquake shook the region.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. Urging everyone to stay calm and follow safety precautions, staying alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation.”

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that the earthquake, measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale, struck at 5:36 AM at a depth of 5 kilometers.
The epicenter recorded at latitude 28.59°N and longitude 77.16°E, with tremors felt across Delhi, Noida, Indirapuram, and other parts of the National Capital Region (NCR).
The NCS acknowledged the tremors in a social media update, mentioning, “EQ of M: 4.0, On: 17/02/2025 05:36:55 IST, Lat: 28.59 N, Long: 77.16 E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: New Delhi, Delhi.”

Despite lasting only a few seconds, the tremors caused momentary panic among residents. Many people reported feeling a strong jolt, prompting them to evacuate buildings and take precautionary measures.
Authorities confirmed that there are no reports of significant damage or casualties so far.
However, given that Delhi-NCR falls under Seismic Zone IV, a region prone to moderate to strong earthquakes, officials have urged residents to stay vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines.
