On Thursday, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra strongly criticized the Central government over the deportation of more than 100 Indian nationals allegedly living illegally in the United States.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s response to the incident. She pointed to his close ties with US President Donald Trump.
In a video released by the All India Congress Committee, the Congress MP stated, “A lot of things were said that President Trump and PM Modi are very good friends. Why did PM Modi let this happen?”
Couldn’t We Have Sent Our Own Aircraft? – Priyanka Gandhi Questions Deportation Process
Priyanka Gandhi also raised concerns about the deportation process. She stated that India could have dispatched its own aircraft to bring the deportees back.
“Couldn’t we have sent our own aircraft to bring them back? Is this how humans are behaved with? That they are sent back handcuffed and shackled? EAM and PM should answer,” noted the Congress MP.
Meanwhile, Opposition parliamentarians staged a protest today, calling for a parliamentary discussion on the recent deportation.
Congress MP Gurujit Singh Aujla from Amritsar participated in the protest, wearing handcuffs to highlight the inhuman treatment of the deportees.
Aulja noted, “The way they were brought in was wrong. They were humiliated. Their hands and feet were chained. When our government already knew that they were going to be deported, then they should have sent a commercial flight to bring them back.”
Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav, and several other leaders also joined the protest, wearing handcuffs outside Parliament. They held placards that read ‘Humans, not prisoners’.
The Congress party submitted an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha. They urged for an urgent discussion on the issue to prevent the further dehumanization of Indian citizens.
“This House must urgently address the issue to prevent further dehumanisation of our people and to uphold the dignity of every Indian, both at home and abroad,” read the motion.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned until 2 pm due to the protests and uproar over the issue.
