On January 30, Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh and DGP Prashant Kumar, under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, inspected the site of the Maha Kumbh incident that occurred on Wednesday night. Following their review, the senior officials issued a series of directives aimed at refining arrangements for the upcoming Amrit Snan, set to take place on Basant Panchami.

During the inspection, both officials acknowledged the global praise for the Maha Kumbh 2025 preparations but stressed the need for a flawless Amrit Snan. They urged the administration to stay focused and adopt a ‘Build It Better’ approach to make the upcoming event seamless and memorable for all devotees.

Chief Minister’s Continuous Monitoring Of The Situation

DGP Prashant Kumar expressed deep concern over the incident, noting that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was personally affected and had monitored the situation for 12 continuous hours after the incident. He stated, “The Chief Minister was deeply moved. From early Wednesday morning, he held a meeting and ensured no effort was spared in making the arrangements flawless. We must now guarantee a zero-error Amrit Snan on Basant Panchami.”

Kumar further emphasized the importance of deploying maximum officers in high-density areas and stationed at key border points to enhance coordination and crowd management. His directives aimed to ensure that no crowd-related incidents would disrupt the upcoming festival.

Judicial Inquiry Ordered And Focus On Improving Arrangements

Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh confirmed that the Chief Minister had ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident and tasked senior officers to oversee improvements in future arrangements. He remarked, “While we cannot undo the incident, we must now focus on the future. Our priority is ensuring the Amrit Snan on Basant Panchami runs smoothly with the best possible arrangements.”

Singh also highlighted that this year’s preparations for the Maha Kumbh were the most comprehensive in history, with ample resources and manpower deployed to ensure smooth operations. He emphasized that while the crowd size contributed to the incident, morale must remain high as preparations continue. “We have two days to finalize all preparations and ensure a remarkable experience for devotees,” he stated.

Enhancing Crowd Control And Sanitation Measures

Singh outlined specific measures to prevent crowd congestion during the upcoming Amrit Snan. He directed officials to implement multi-level barricading to regulate the flow of devotees, particularly at Sangam Nose, and stressed the need for strict enforcement of diversion plans.

In addition, sanitation was a key focus, with Singh insisting that no area within the fairgrounds should have waste or litter. He order officials to monitor cleanliness actively and instruct sanitation workers to be deploy in shifts for uninterrupte service. The Chief Secretary also emphasized the need for a clean environment beyond the fairgrounds, urging officials to extend sanitation efforts into the city.

Efforts To Ensure Seamless Experience For Devotees

Mela Officer Vijay Kiran Anand provided a detailed overview of the preparations for the Amrit Snan of Mauni Amavasya, highlighting the successful implementation of crowd management strategies.

Parking lots, railway station logistics, and the zonal plan were all efficiently manage. The public address system operated smoothly, and real-time updates from the Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) played a crucial role in ensuring the event ran without major disruptions.

Looking ahead to the Amrit Snan on Basant Panchami, Anand emphasized that officials would strategically deploy resources once again and re-execute the zonal plan to ensure devotees bathe at their nearest designated ghats, preventing overcrowding at specific locations.

Senior officials, including UPPCL Chairman Ashish Goyal, Principal Secretary of Urban Development Amrit Abhijat, ADG Bhanu Bhaskar, and others, attended the review meeting.
