An underwater drone was tested on Wednesday as part of preparations for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, stated IG PAC East Zone Prayagraj, Rajeev Narain Mishra.
Speaking to ANI, Mishra explained that the drone will assist the water police and Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC), highlighting efforts to integrate new technology for the smooth conduct of the event.
He stated, “Efforts have made to use all the new technology available to ensure the smooth conduct of this Maha Kumbh. In this sequence, an underwater drone was tested today. The water police and PAC will use it. This drone can identify a person or object underwater. We can deploy it anytime as needed. We are continuously making arrangements for all kinds of water surveillance.”
Deputy CM Criticizes Previous Government’s Handling Of 2013 Kumbh Mela
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, meanwhile, took a swipe at the previous state government over the handling of the 2013 Kumbh Mela, recalling the tragic incident where several devotees lost their lives.
Maurya asserted that when SP chief Akhilesh Yadav was the Chief Minister of UP, he organized the Kumbh in Prayagraj in 2013. He assigned the responsibility for the Kumbh Mela to Azam Khan, and during the event, an incident occurred in which many devotees died.
The Deputy CM further emphasized the success of the 2022 Ardh Kumbh Mela, which attracted more than 24 crore attendees.
“The Ardh Kumbh Mela organized in 2022, with more than 24 crore people participating in the event. We expect 40-50 crore devotees to attend the Maha Kumbh. We have made proper arrangements for the safety of the devotees,” Maurya noted.
Looking ahead, Maurya highlighted preparations for the Maha Kumbh, which will likely draw 40-50 crore devotees. “We are ensuring robust safety arrangements to accommodate the massive influx,” he assured.
The Yogi government is gearing up to showcase India’s rich cultural diversity during the Maha Kumbh 2025, scheduled from 10 January to 24 February.
According to a press release, the Uttar Pradesh Culture Department is finalizing plans to highlight the nation’s vibrant folk arts throughout the 45-day event.
As part of the preparations, the authorities will set up 20 small stages at prominent locations across Prayagraj, giving tourists, devotees, and locals a chance to experience traditional dance forms from different states across India.
